COUNTRY AND DEMOGRAPHIC DATA

This section provides key demographic and socioeconomic indicators for each country, including population, life expectancy, and development indexes. These indicators offer essential context for interpreting physical activity data and comparing across countries and regions.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PROMOTION CAPACITY

This section shows each country’s capacity to promote physical activity through research, policies, and surveillance. The maps allow comparison across the three GoPA! Country Card editions (2015, 2020, 2025). Capacity levels are shown in a traffic-light format (High, Medium, Low). The meaning of each level varies by domain (Research, Policy, Surveillance) and is fully described in the ‘Sources and methods’.

DEATHS DUE TO PHYSICAL INACTIVITY

This section shows each country’s deaths due to physical inactivity. Deaths related to physical inactivity are the estimated population attributable fractions for all-cause mortality associated with physical inactivity by country. Deaths related to physical inactivity were estimated using the semi-adjusted population attributable factor-PAF (partial population attributable risk). These estimates were calculated using the same methodology applied in the previous edition of the Country Cards and fully described in the ‘Sources and methods’, ensuring consistency and comparability.

NATIONAL POLICIES

This section shows the number of national policies promoting physical activity in each country. The bubbles are placed on each country, and their size reflects the total number of policies, combining both standalone physical activity policies and national non-communicable disease policies that include physical activity.
